The Bay of Islands has long been a meeting place of people and cultures. The teal and turquoise waters, the caramel beaches and the 144 emerald green islands which give this marine playground its name all provide a stunning visual backdrop against which visitors and residents alike gather to relax, explore, have fun and celebrate.
The area is rich in history and heritage; this was where Māori and Europeans first met and mingled hundreds of years ago. Now it’s a cultural canvas, offering a myriad delightful insights into the way these two peoples, along with many others since, have melded to form today’s Aotearoa New Zealand.
Whether you’re visiting for a short time or longer, and no matter what your interests and passions, the Bay of Islands has any number of stories waiting for you to tell. Come and explore it all from Bay of Islands Marina; your gateway to the Bay.
Bay of Islands Marina is a full service marina and boatyard, boasting a 400-berth facility on the threshold of one of New Zealand’s premier marine playgrounds.
It’s an ideal place to call home. Rest and recharge in this peaceful spot with your boat safely tucked into a world-class marina facility, protected from the ocean swells by the 144 island gems that give the bay its name.
Bay of Islands Marina is in Port Opua, the primary port of entry to New Zealand for yachties arriving in New Zealand from the Pacific. It boasts a safe, well-marked and easy approach by both day and night, with customs and quarantine berths conveniently situated on the outer breakwater of the marina.
Recently expanded, the marina has a range of berths available for both long and short-term lease. There are hot showers, pump-out facilities, a diesel fuel dock, wi-fi and postal services, and live-aboards are very welcome.
The adjacent Port Opua Marina Park is home to a wide array of marine services – all within walking distance. These include travel lift haul-out and hardstand, catamaran haul-out, boat builders and riggers, painters, refrigeration, mechanics, electronics, chandlery, car hire, insurance and boat brokers, storage facilities, a laundry, a cafe and a hairdresser.
Opua is located five minutes by road from Paihia, the heart of the Bay of Islands. It is 20 minutes from Kerikeri and Bay of Islands Airport, and just a short water crossing from historic Russell.
Our friendly marina staff are just a call away. Or simply pop into the marina office for all the help and advice you need about your new port of call.
